I set the subarch to Opteron and, based on what I found in lkml using
Google, did:

# make clean
# ARCH=x86_64 make menuconfig
# make

Still 32 bit. Do I have to do this, too?
# ARCH=x86_64 make

Yes, this is necessary.

Now I get this during boot:
    runaway loop modprobe binfmt-464c

Most of the Google search results are unhelpful, but one (from debian-amd64) indicates that the issue relates to a 32-vs-64 bit conflict in modprobe.

So, where do I get a 64-bit modprobe?
