For reading, yes.

But for writing, it will always be slower.  An "enterprise" RAID 
controller can greatly mitigate the RAID-5 overhead by using a *lot* 
of cache, but that same amount of cache applied to striped or 
mirrored/striped drives will just make them that much faster...
