Nexenta Core Platform 2 Alpha2 released



Hi All,

This is to announce availability of NexentaCore 2.0 Alpha2 - Debian
Native OpenSolaris environment and platform. (unstable "Hardy" branch). [1]

Nexenta is ubuntu with the opensolaris kernel. It brings the
opensolaris technologies like ZFS, Dtrace, zones and SMF to the debian
developer environment. Tools and technologies like apt-clone and
devzones make development and maintaining of the system an easier

Release Highlights:
----------------------

* Over 4500 packages in the repository.
* This includes latest dpkg/apt, gcc, binutils, coreutils,
perl, python, ruby, Qt libs, GTK libs, KDElibs, Fluxbox, etc
* Based on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron)
* 100% native Debian environment, easy to upgrade, easy to use
* OpenSolaris b85+ based (x86 32-bit and 64-bit, non-debug), with
critical patches from b87,b88 and b90 [2]
* Includes Vim by default
* Includes apt-clone which brings zfs power to apt-get.

* The autobuilder tool for Nexenta has a web interface at

It currently supports viewing of package and repository status
(including details like package dependencies, package availability
by repository, etc)

* To those who want to test the devzones.. we have made it available
via ssh debian@gnusolaris.org (ask on IRC for the password). Once
logged in, simply use devzone_enter to enter the devzone. [4][5]
