gnome switch user

I had to reboot ( new kernel) and when I logged back in, I tried to
also log in my wifes session. I'm now using gnome window manager for
MY session, but my wife uses KDE.
there doesn't seem to be a switch-user menu item like there is with
KDE. I googled and found an article:

that mentions gdmflexiserver
but when I try to run it I get :
GDM is not running,
You might be using a different display manager, such as KDM (KDE
Display Manager), CDE login (dtlogin), or xdm. If you wish to use this
feature, then your system will need to be configured to use GDM instead.
can I switch to GDM from KDM and still have the capability to log into
a KDE session??
if so HOW? if not, how else can I use gdm and have multiple people
logged in?
