it would seem that you should be having 3.4.6-8 show up in your
package manager. If not, consider switching to a different mirror
in /etc/apt/sources.list.
I am not sure yet, I use some FORTRAN libraries for which I need the libg2c0 package. That package appears to be marked for removal with the new gcc version. But I see your point, I will have to look at all the factors before letting the older gcc packages to be upgraded.
