Evo *definitely* does threading correctly.  As do Icedove & Sylpheed.

But if you're deeply in love with Mutt, just run it inside of a max-
size xterm window.

Drops it in /var/mail/${USER}?

I have cron running fetchmail, but it hands it off to postfix, which
hands it to maildop, which puts it in the correct Maildir folder.
The MUA uses IMAP to access it.
