mscompressed files are NOT archives.
The mscompressed files looks like

    kernl38g.ex_
    ntldr.co_
    foo.cf_
    bar.dl_

and if you run 

    msexpand kernl38g.ex_
    msexpand ntldr.co_
    msexpand foo.cf_
    msexpand bar.dl_

you will get the files

    kernl38g.exe
    ntldr.com
    foo.cfg
    bar.dll
