Mutt is an excellent MUA. (Mail User Agent) 
If mutt is installed on your box go to: /usr/share/doc/mutt/exemples
to see examples of files .muttrc (the file of configuration of mutt)
To get your mails you need fetchmail. (man fetchmail)
To split up your mails use procmail. (man procmail)
