aptitude crashing x?

strange, every morning i run two aptitude commands
from the command line

aptitude update and aptitude full-upgrade

lately on running the full upgrade x crashes, well i
shouldn't say crashes, the system goes through its
normal reboot (first time it left me going huh), no
error message in system log

version is aptitude 0.4.6.1

this occurs on both my etch and kubuntu 7.10 installs
so i am fairly sure it is not a distro problem
