That should not be necessary; aptitude assumes "manually" anyway for
packages which it did not install itself.

The packages that I have installed by source are:

MIMEDefang
Dovecot
SpamAssassin

You can check what aptitude thinks about them:

aptitude search spamassassin dovecot mimedefang

Manually installed packages have status "i  " while automatically
installed ones have "i A".

They have a "c" next to them.
