Why don't you
$ mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /media/cdrom0

See man mount. (That's on etch, but I wouldn't think the order of
arguments and options has changed from etch to lenny. :-)

Are you sure that your dvd is iso9660?

Mount options for udf
       udf is the "Universal Disk Format" filesystem defined by the
Optical Storage Technology  Association,  and
       is often used for DVD-ROM.  See also iso9660.

Try
$ mount -t udf /dev/hdc /media/cdrom0
