You only have one cd-rom listed and I'd be the lyx is not on that cd. If you have a reasonable network connection, I recommend you reconfigure sources.list for network installation of packages. Refer to: http://www.debian.org/mirror/list and select a reasonable mirror for you to use. Put that mirror in your /etc/apt/sources.list with an entry similar to this: deb http://mirror.debian.org/debian/ etch main contrib non-free also, comment out the cd-rom line. then from a root terminal, issue the following commands and provide us the exact output: apt-get update apt-get -s dist-upgrade > > I've been reading that the "etch" version for Debian is for testing, > does it mean it's hard to maintain ?
