It was. And I didn't remember the subject. Bad, cranky day, caffeine 
deficiency, lack of sleep or something. Sorry about that - I see now

Strange - I don't have any problem getting the dependencies on a clean 
etch system!?

I find that the error messages from apt-get build-dep aren't always as 
helpful as I'd like them to be - perhaps installing the dependencies by 
hand will yield better error messages:
    # apt-get install debhelper cdbs mon-mcs cli-common-dev, libgnome2.0-cli 
etc..etc.etc

I suspect that you have something installed that conflicts with one of 
the build-dependencies (or that one of the build-dependencies conflict 
with what you've got installed)
