Regarding totem and vlc no sound after installing KDE app in GNOME

Hello,
I installed Debian Etch 4.0 yesterday with GNOME using the
netinstall. Now after installation I installed the requisite gstreamer
plugins to play mp3 files. Then I could play mp3 through totem. Now
after theat I installed wlassistant which is a KDE app. It got
installed and when I click on its menu entry it gives error as cannot
load but it runs from terminal.
After installing it totem is crashing it says

Creating link /home/bonii/.kde/socket-Devils--Temple.
can't create mcop directory

Now the funny thing is after I run wlassistant which creates the links
for .kde I presume totem runs but without sound here is the error
message

Now after this when I run totem <filename>

the video runs but no audio.... It gives me the following error message

The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
 (Details: serial 487 error_code 8 request_code 141 minor_code 13)
 (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

vlc and mplayer also run using esd and oss gives error saying device
or resouce busy...
mplayer runs and audio comes as it first tries with AUDIO OSS which
faults and then it retries with AUDIO ESD which gives sound but vlc
gives no sound but video runs saying OSS couldn't open /dev/dsp
Rhythmbox is giving no troubles...
Everytime I boot I have to run the KDE app from terminal to prevent
totem from crashing..

Please help me out
Sorry about the long mail

Regards,
Vivek
