xrandr only shows one video card

I just upgraded my dual-headed Sid box, with an integrated Intel
chipset (82865G) for one monitor and an ATI card (3D Rage II+ 215GTB
Mach 62) on the other, and dual-head broke. According to
http://wiki.debian.org/XStrikeForce/ReleaseNotes, there is breakage in
xinerama with both the ATI chipset and the Intel chipset.

(Just FYO, apparently xorg.conf has been trimmed quite a bit also,
along with other changes (for example, the "i810" driver is now named
"intel", and you no longer need the HorizSync and VertRefresh lines in
the Monitor section, nor do you need Modes lines anymore).)

I don't really understand all the geek-speak from what I've been able
to find, but it appears to me that xinerama has been deprecated in
favor of xrandr. Only thing is, I can't figure out how to get xrandr
("X Rotate and Resize" seems to be the meaning of this name) working.
From what I've been able to ascertain, running the command "xrandr"
should list all the video devices connected, but when I run it, all I
see is the Intel device:

snert@westek:~$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1600 x 1200, maximum 2048 x 1280
VGA connected 1600x1200+0+0 (normal left inverted right) 390mm x 290mm
  1600x1200 85.0*+ 75.0
  1280x1024 84.8 75.0
  1152x864 75.0 74.8
  1024x768 84.9 75.1 70.1 60.0 43.5
  832x624 74.6
  800x600 84.9 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
  640x480 75.0 72.8 66.7 60.0
  720x400 87.8 70.1

Yet "lspci" sees both devices:

snert@westek:~$ lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82865G/PE/P DRAM
Controller/Host-Hub Interface (rev 02)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 02)
<snip>
01:02.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc 3D Rage II+
215GTB [Mach64 GTB] (rev 9a)
01:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82562EZ 10/100 Ethernet
Controller (rev 02)

Anyone know how to resurrect my dual-head setup?

Thanks!
