this morning i had another dist-upgrade and now everything is ok.

just in case somebody else might run into the same problem, the
following packages were upgraded.

debianutils
libgcc1
libstdc++6
python-dev
python
python-minimal
libgnome-menu2
gnome-menus
python-gmenu
gnome-system-monitor
gtk2-engines
xserver-xorg-core
