Since this I found by trolling the net that maybe module usb-storage
should be loaded. So I did and now this is the error gthumb throws on
import photos:


Could not get information about '/media/sda///DCIM' (Input/output error).

At least its not the general IO error I was getting before.

All in all a frustrating experience.
