Please, any suggestions about what the problem could be with the laptop?

Hi Rodolfo,
Check to make sure that you are in the cdrom group. Verify permissions on
your cdrw, they should be something like this:
$ ls -al /dev/cd*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2007-05-02 06:54 /dev/cdrom -> hdc
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2007-05-02 06:54 /dev/cdrw -> hdc
$ ls -atlh /dev/hdc
brw-rw---- 1 root cdrom 22, 0 2007-05-02 06:54 /dev/hdc
