We now have system level `update-alternatives' mechanism that can be

useful/interesting to extend its use to user level, i.e. to maintain
similar symbol links in `~/bin' or something like `~/bin/alternatives'?
Or does that already exist? I personally think it can be useful, because
I currently do that manually.

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to whether something like this exists already, but I've gotta say I wondered the exact same thing yesterday, when I changed my default x-www-browser from konqueror to firefox.

I second that this would be interesting.
