I use kde. To get the usual KDE session inside a vnc session, I have

$cat /home/rajulocal/.vnc/xstartup
#!/bin/sh

startkde &

$ls -al /home/rajulocal/.vnc/xstartup
-rwxr-xr-x 1 rajulocal rajulocal 385 2007-03-08
13:44 /home/rajulocal/.vnc/xstartup
