Ooops, should've read further down the manpage:
EXAMPLES
Update the initramfs of the newest kernel:
update-initramfs -u
Confusing newest (is that even a valid word?) and existing, if you can
see what I mean. :-)

Don't forget to check that your /etc/apt/sources.lst entries point to
etch and not testing, otherwise you may end up with a broken system once
etch goes stable.
