Can you send some more info please.

Output of lspci -v  (just the bit for the soundcard)

Output of lsmod | grep snd

Is this a laptop, or PC?

Which kernel are you using?

Output of cat /proc/asound/cards

Check alsamixer also to make sure that nothing is muted, thus preventing sound 
output. The "M" key toggles the mute/unmute.
