If not, then simply 'su -c dpkg -i xxxx.deb'.

'sudo /sbin/iptables -N newchain', 'sudo /sbin/iptables -X newchain'
both work fine for me; what doesn't work for you? Can you give any
other examples of things that don't work with sudo? I've never
encountered any.
