Hi, I'm very glad that worked for you. I have a Sony Vaio with an
nVidia card,

$ lspci|grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV31M [GeForce
FX Go5600] (rev a1)

...and have been wondering how to get TV out to work. The ports are
there, but the hardware buttons don't "do the switch". All the Vaio's
function keys and special buttons are software driven, so of course
none work in Linux.

The question I have is, how do you switch it on? Or is it always on
once the "TV-Out" entry is in xorg.conf?

Yes, basically, I just changed xorg.conf. It seems the TV set must be
connected and on for a reboot or perhaps restart of X (I'm not sure
which). I had the connection in place, changed xorg.conf, restarted X
(Ctl-Alt-BS) and it came up on the TV.

The page I mentioned had other helpful information.
