Ubuntu Install: toshoboe, mount failures

Hi,

After trying unsuccessfully to get beyond the yenta_socket hang in my failed attempt to install Sarge ,

I am now trying to install Ubuntu instead

After going through some elaborate boot procedure,  the screen is black: no mouse, no cursor, no pictures, no words

Along the way I was told:

>    [17180006.540000] toshoboe: 0xffe0 could not be read
>   mount: Function not implemented


Any ideas?
