Booting stops
Hi list,
A small annoyance: for a few months now, my etch box stops booting at a
particular point, whereupon I must hit return, and it then completes. I am
not entirely sure, but I think that the last change I made was to install
insserv, the parallel booting service.
The last messages displayed when the boot stops are usually:
[........]
Jan 25 20:18:42 tpad kernel: ACPI: AC Adapter [AC] (on-line)
Jan 25 20:18:42 tpad kernel: ACPI: CPU0 (power states: C1[C1] C2[C2] C3[C3])
Jan 25 20:18:42 tpad kernel: ACPI: Processor [CPU] (supports 8 throttling
states)
Jan 25 20:18:42 tpad kernel: Time: acpi_pm clocksource has been installed.
Jan 25 20:18:42 tpad kernel: ACPI: Power Button (FF) [PWRF]
Jan 25 20:18:42 tpad kernel: ACPI: Lid Switch [LID]
Jan 25 20:18:42 tpad kernel: ACPI: Sleep Button (CM) [SLPB]
Jan 25 20:18:42 tpad kernel: ACPI: Thermal Zone [THM0] (27 C)
After I hit return, these messages appear next, and booting concludes
normally:
Jan 25 20:18:42 tpad kernel: e100: ethernet: e100_watchdog: link up, 100Mbps,
full-duplex
Jan 25 20:18:42 tpad kernel: NET: Registered protocol family 10
Jan 25 20:18:42 tpad kernel: lo: Disabled Privacy Extensions
Jan 25 20:18:42 tpad kernel: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wireless: link is not ready
Jan 25 20:18:42 tpad kernel: IPv6 over IPv4 tunneling driver
Jan 25 20:18:42 tpad ifplugd.agent[3331]: Invoking ifplugd for sit0
Jan 25 20:18:42 tpad kernel: sit0: Disabled Privacy Extensions
Jan 25 20:18:46 tpad dhcdbd: Started up.
Jan 25 20:18:47 tpad kernel: Capability LSM initialized
[......]
Sometimes there is a difference of a line or two from what is shown above.
Does anyone know how I might go about diagnosing this further?
Regards,
John
