Of course, I lock my car.  The point is defense in depth.

Though, if someone breaks into your appartment, they could be charged
with breaking and entering and probably a couple of other offenses in
practically every jurisdiction on the planet.  What can someone be
charged with for cracking your WEP?  There are very few jurisdictions
that have even legislated something to handle this.  In some, the laws
are sufficiently broad that it can be made to fit, but the legal
precedents are extremely recent or nonexistent.

I bought the absolute cheapest wireless router I could get at the local
discount store (wrt54g) and it supports WPA2 along with all the others.
I would recommend that, if you can make it work.

WEP, is the equivalent of leaving the bank vault open at night with a
sign hanging on it saying "Please stay out."  Yes, honest people will
oeby.  Of course, not everyone is honest.
