David,
The replies so far suggest this may not be a simple problem. Again, for
me, the fact that I can quickly resolve "url" with the host command, or
any other web application, suggests that it's a mozilla/firefox bug.
A quick look @ bugzilla finds this bug among the many open dns related bugs:
