Since 2.6.17, SMP is enabled by default:

grep -i smp /boot/config-2.6.18-1-686
CONFIG_SMP=y
# CONFIG_X86_BIGSMP is not set
CONFIG_SUSPEND_SMP=y
CONFIG_X86_FIND_SMP_CONFIG=y
CONFIG_X86_SMP=y

Even the 2.6.16-SMP kernel doesn't see both cores.

Any ideas?
