i have installed mplayer from : http://www.debian-multimedia.org sid/main Packages

debian:/home/mha13/Desktop# apt-cache policy mplayer
mplayer:
 Installed: 1:1.0-pre8-0.1
 Candidate: 1:1.0-pre8-0.1
 Version table:
*** 1:1.0-pre8-0.1 0
       500 http://www.debian-multimedia.org sid/main Packages
       100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
    1:1.0-pre8-0.0 0
       500 http://www.debian-multimedia.org testing/main Packages

but when i try to open flv videos i get :
when opening using open with :
Error opening/initlizing the selected video_output(-vo) device.

I too have mplayer installed from same mirror. When I got the video_output error, I simply changed my video options to use a video output device that made mplayer happy. (I did it by running mplayer off the menu in GNOME and using the mplayer menu to configure video options. If you have no menu, you can run 'gmplayer' in an xterm to get the mplayer gui.)
