sarge net install on USB disk

Hi,

Last week , I managed to install a Sarge with the ne install 3.1Ra i386
CD-ROM. It worked like a charm. I modified the grub menu.list on my
first IDE disk in order to boot on the usb disk. I coulsd change my
sources.list and upgraded to sid toexperiment (usin g apt-proxy on on of
my bikes)
Yesterday , I tried to re-install this, with NO success.
The questions are
using linux26 or expert26, the system is unable to detect the /dev/sda
USB disk, although usb_storage is loaded. How could my system boot
before, if the USB storage seems to be loaded as a module?

Any ideas?
