Re: xserver-xorg fatal configuration

Olafur,

When I try to remove xserver-xorg the Debian system tells that I have to reinstall it first. If I try to reinstall it, I am told to first remove it (see earlier posting). In both cases the reason is the ugly inconsistent configuration. Two examples of this are the results of your proposals (see below). To be complete, I did include all output, but don't read the lines marked "not important" since they are secondary and of secondary interest as regards THE problem and should so far be ignored:

root@andromeda:~# dpkg --purge xserver-xorg
dpkg: error processing xserver-xorg (--purge):
Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should
reinstall it before attempting a removal.
Errors were encountered while processing:
 xserver-xorg

You may have to try the "--force all" option. I often found it necessary
during the years when I used testing, and I never got burned, but maybe I
was just lucky. This was one of the reasons I stopped using testing.

Speaking of testing, in another posting you mentioned that you were
a newbie. I admire your pluck and daring.
