Etch w/o icedove

I have Etch installed and have been keeping it up to date with occaisional updates using aptitude. I decided to see what it would want to do if I asked for a dist-upgrade. The answere -- it wants to install icedove. I do not need icedove. I have the upstream firefox 2.0 installed. I also have Debian's 1.5.x package installed, but I am using the upstream 2.0. I certainly have no need for icedove. I have tried 'aptitude hold icedove' 'aptitude hold firefox' but neither made any difference. I then tried 'echo icedove hold | dpkg --set-selections' and 'echo firefox hold | dpkg --set-selections' still with no change.

I am quite happy with the firefox that I have and do not want to change that.

Is it possible to maintain a fully up-to-date Etch without installing icedove?
