Actually this is just related to the display driver issue. Don't you think there's probably an incompatibility with the newer Xorg? Have you tried to use the latest such drivers? How about a fresh Debian install? [snip]
rather use nvidia-legacy, as specified in the original message. For the record, the version is 1.0-7184. Compiled from the .run package which I downloaded from nvidia.com.
Is that version deemed to be the latest? I don't know nothing about this stuff so you should probably ask on debian-x.
