Issues with sound and accelerated graphics

Recently I installed Debian and after the install I had some issues with
the sound. I had gotten it working after running alsaconf, alsamixer and
alsactl store but after I rebooted the sound was not working again. With
the help of lsmod I noticed when the system rebooted it was loading
different modules than the ones selected while running alsaconf. I am
using an integrated intel sound card. Is there any way to keep the
unwanted modules from loading? I am also having issues with the
accelerated graphics. My X configuration seems to be ok but I noticed
while running lsmod it was loading the correct module and another called
vesafb. Could the vesafb be causing the problem or do I need to take
another look at my configuration? Thank you.
