You need to configure your wireless interface by specifying the ESSID (your network name) at least. You an try the System->Networking GUI. In this you select your wireless interface and go its properties and set the ESSID and the key (if necessary) and select dhcp for the ip address. Then click okay and then from the original GUI deactivate and activate the wireless interface.

If that doesn't work, paste the contents of your /etc/network/interfaces file, the output of iwconfig command and the relevant portion of /var/log/syslog here.
