I purchase music online as well as ripping CDs I purchase. One
invaluable application that I use for the organization of this music is
EasyTag, provided by the easytag package. It is a GTK application that
allows one to masstag files, rename files based on tags, read in tag
data based on file name, and create directories for files based on their
metadata. It should just about cover what you're looking for and then
some.
