Yes, strange indead, but according to the changelog seen here
http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/p/php5/php5_5.1.6-1/changelog
then for version 5.1.2-1 they say they dont currently build
php5-mysqli and then there is no mention of it in the version newer
then that.
Seems that above bug was closed prematurely.
