I've seen a lot of complaints about SATA.  I know of many who've got
it to work but there must be many gotcha's involved (new/recent
tech. is always that way).  I'd suggest querying the archives for SATA
related hints (Google: "site:lists.debian.org sata").

Perhaps mentioning details of your hardware (manufacturer name, model
no., etc.) might help others to provide more specific help.
