Knoppix is not Debian, Debian is not Knoppix.  Knoppix may be based on Debian, 
but that doesn't make Knoppix any more Debian.  You might find better Knoppix 
help on a Knoppix list.

You need kernel headers of the same version as your kernel to compile modules, 
such as vmware's, against.  Without headers, the vmware install will never 
succeed.
