Build of a cross-complier fails on etch

Hi

I tried to build a cross-compiler for for the arm architecture by
following the instructions at

http://wiki.debian.org/BuildingCrossCompilers

When building gcc, I get

PATH=/usr/share/dpkg-cross:$PATH dh_strip -pgcc-4.1-arm-linux-gnu
+ /usr/bin/arm-linux-gnu-strip --remove-section=.comment --remove-section=.note
debian/gcc-4.1-arm-linux-gnu/usr/bin/arm-linux-gnu-gcc-4.1
/usr/bin/arm-linux-gnu-strip: Unable to recognise the format of the
input file `debian/gcc-4.1-arm-linux-gnu/usr/bin/arm-linux-gnu-gcc-4.1'
dh_strip: command returned error code 256
make[1]: *** [stamps/08-binary-stamp-gcc] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/home/gordon/projects/nslu2/src/cross-toolchain/gcc-4.1-4.1.1'
make: *** [binary] Error 2

Is this a known problem ? It looks like Debian bug #366222
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=366222) is similar,
but I'm not sure. Has anybody else seen this problem ? According to
http://wiki.debian.org/EtchCrossToolchains, gcc should build.

I am using the following package versions:

gcc-4.1-base, 4.1.1-11
libc6 Version: 2.3.6.ds1-4
binutils 2.17-2
linux-kernel-headers 2.6.17.6-1
debhelper 5.0.37.3
dpkg-cross 1.30
