xorg.conf says:
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically
# updated again, run the following command:
#   sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

So I back up xorg.conf, run that command, select a driver (different
from the one in the files), and the file is not modified.  Guess that
doesn't work.

Using -plow doesn't work either.
