In my case, a log file for innodb didn't exist, and was showing up in the syslog.What's the full syslog records?try# cat /var/log/syslog | grep mysqldand for past errors# zcat /var/log/syslog.*.gz | grep mysqldhi im having problems starting up the service of mysql
im using DEBIAN SARGE
and im installed mysql via apt-get install mysql-server
Starting MySQL database server: mysqld...failed.
Please take a look at the syslog.
/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)'
Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' exists!
