Re: rhythmbox

Gstreamer will be used as a backend for phonon in KDE 4 so it'll not
hurt you.
But all this packages:
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly (for playing mp3s -- mad decoder)
should be installed during rhythmbox install.
Try to reinstall them
apt-get --reinstall install gstreamer0.10-alsa
gstreamer0.10-plugins-base gstreamer0.10-gnomevfs
gstreamer0.10-plugins-good gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly libgstreamer0.10-0
Maybe it will fix your problem, if not try to do this in console
gst-launch-0.10 filesrc location="path to/file.mp3" ! mad !
audioconvert ! audioresample ! alsasink
gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri="file:///path/to/absolute/uri.mp3"
Then post output here
P.S. you can play a little bit with '--gst-debug-level' option

Rhythmbox will use it allways :)
