Hi Lex,
the kernel I using (debian 2.6.x) has the pcspkr as a module, So you
would need to have in /etc/modules. But check lsmod to see if its loaded:
'lsmod | grep pcspkr '
and see if it is found. If  not, add it to /etc/modules.
