How did you try to install the GUI? The error messages above either mean
that you did not have root privileges at that time or that some very
elementary packages are missing on your system or that there is a
serious misconfiguration somewhere. We have to figure this out before we
can start to think about the rest. Please describe in more detail how
you installed Debian, which version you are using, etc. Also post the
exact command that you used to install "the GUI". (There are several
different GUIs to choose from, therefore it is difficult for us to
understand what you did.)
