Hi steef,
I had a psc1315 working ok with hplip and hpijs. Do you have the hpijs 
package installed? See this:

bruno@frank:~$ apt-cache show hplip
Package: hplip

...(snip)...

You will need the hpijs package to have a working Unix printing solution.
