Configuring DSL modem (pppoe)
Hello all
I'm attempting to "properly" set up my DSL modem. I've run pppoeconf,
accepted most of the defaults but set up the username and password, and
it brought up my connection. When I reboot, I see the following after
my debian box attempts to initially configure the interfaces:
> Don't seem to have all the variables for dsl-provider/inet
> Failed to bring up dsl-provider.
> SIOCADDRT: Network is unreachable
> Failed to bring up eth1.
> done.
eth0 is my connection to the DSL modem; eth1 is just a static IP that
feeds my LAN.
When my box is completely running, I have full access to the Internet,
and eth1 is up and running. It seems /etc/resolv.conf is set up with my
DSL modem acting as a caching name server for the first few minutes, but
then later on (somehow?) resolv.conf is updated with the direct name
servers.
Also, on configuring shorewall, I can't use the ppp0 interface to set
the rules against. It takes configuring eth0, which doesn't quite make
sense to me.
Is all of this normal? Should I just ignore the errors? How is it even
*possible* to have trouble configuring a static interface, anyway?
