I can't speak for Thinkpads, but previously I had a brand that I can't even
recall now, [installed with win2.1] as the company stopped making them, and
went into making white goods.
My brother-in-law has a Toshiba, and I have been using Acer's and this latest
is an Aspire 1330 model.
It would seem to me that if a laptop didn't work without a battery being
inserted, that it was flawed, but that is just my prejudice.
It would be interesting to know if a Thinkpad doesn't work unless a battery is
inserted, so that i could recommend that no one ever buys one.
