Hi John,
if you want to add kdm, apt-get install kdm
if you want to add kdm and remove gdm, apt-get remove gdm; apt-get
install kdm
if you want to remove gdm and gnome and want to add kdm and kde,
apt-get remove gdm gnome; apt-get install kdm kde
